GLIMMERS OF GRACE AMID THE GARBAGE SLUMS
Stephen's Children offers hope and transformation for children and families living in Cairo's fetid garbage slums and impoverished communities in rural Upper Egypt. Named for the first Christian martyr, Stephen's Children seeks to amplify his compassion, service, and life-altering allegiance to God's Word. Founded and still guided by the visionary and tenderly devoted leadership
of "Mama Maggie" Gobran, we touch more than 30,000 children and their families through programs that enlist almost 1,500 workers and volunteers. Efforts are focused on neglected children of the garbage slums and other places of poverty in Egypt, encouraging them to experience love, build self worth and seize hold of the hope that is found in Jesus Christ.
A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL CHILDREN
Stephen’s Children has a model of service offerings easily adopted and replicated in other countries beyond Egypt. In Sudan, a Community Education Center project has begun. Stephen’s Children staff are engaged in organizing conversations in Ethiopia. Turkey is another country with similar needs that the Stephen’s Children model in Egypt could address. Mama Maggie yearns to reach the children in these countries as well as the burgeoning population of children in India and China. As a visionary leader, she prays that her life and its work can be a catalyst for others around the world to join the
cause of loving the unloved and serving the poorest of the poor.
The deepest desire of Mama Maggie’s heart is for a better future for all children: "I want to go on with my service more and more, until it spreads all over Egypt and the whole world, to make a better future for humanity--especially the children. We provide simple work but with great love. We draw a smile in the heart and spirit of every deprived child. I hope this goes on from generation to generation."
